Getting Ready for
your Shoot

   * How to LOOK YOUR BEST

FIRST RULE OF THUMB
Get a good nights sleep and be well rested when
      you arrive!

CLOTHING
Here are some things to consider when selecting your clothes:

~ White or pastel colors are perfect for lighter backgrounds.
~ Casual outfits in earth tones work best for outdoor photographs.
~ Middle tones or deeper solid colors are ideal for formal portraits.
~ Bright colors look great with our Color Key backgrounds.
~ Avoid large prints or patterns that distract from your face.
~ Choose long-sleeved shirts or sweaters rather than short-sleeved.

HAIR
Plan to wear your hair in a style you’re comfortable with. Avoid
new cuts or styles.

GLASSES
If you wear glasses, wear them for your portrait, but have the
lenses removed.

FOR GIRLS
Keep your make-up natural and fresh. Use a light non-oily foundation and set your foundation with a loose powder. Eye shadows should be neutral shades.

FOR GUYS
A fresh shave is a must! If you have a beard or mustache,
make sure it's neatly trimmed.

CLOSE-UP PORTRAITS (Business, Yearbook picture)
Dress in something very simple, both in color and style.
Guys can choose a suit, sport coat, shirt and tie, or
sweater. For girls, a plain dress, sweater, or blouse
with a simple neckline is best. Both guys and girls
should wear long sleeves to keep the eye from being
drawn to the flesh of the arms.

IMFORMAL POSES AND SPECIAL STYLES
Informal portraits invite much more variety in clothing,
color, and style. Girls can choose a favorite sports
outfit, prom dress, jeans outfit –the colors you really
enjoy. Possible choices for guys include a suit, jeans
outfit, a casual or sports outfit, or a school or other
jacket. Bring extra outfits and we’ll help you choose!

EXPRESS YOURSELF
If you have a hobby, bring it along! Musical
instruments, art supplies, cheerleading or athletic
uniforms, stuffed animals, skateboards, girlfriends,
boyfriends, and buddies.

  * PLANNING FOR YOUR SESSION

Hair
Don’t try a new hairstyle just for your session, and
have your hair cut around a week before your session
is scheduled.

Skin Problems
Don’t worry if you develop a skin problem. Our
finished portraits can be retouched to eliminate
blemishes and soften harsh lines. Charges may apply.

Glasses
Problems with glasses can lead to extra retouching
charges. We can remove glare on glasses, but tinted
lenses cannot be lightened. If your glasses are tinted
or exceptionally thick, they can distort the way the
camera photographs the eye. In this case, you should
ask your optometrist for a pair of empty frames
to wear for your portrait session. Or contact lenses
would be best.

Braces
Braces can be removed with artwork at an extra charge.
However, some dentists are willing to remove braces
for your session if you take the time to schedule the
procedure.

Tanning
Removing tan or sunburn lines will incur additional
retouching charges.

For Girls…
Makeup can affect the way your portrait looks. Both
fresh, natural makeup, or “evening” makeup
photograph well.

For Guys…
A fresh shave is a must! If you have a beard or
mustache, make sure it is trimmed to your liking.
